Brown County
Brown County is the easternmost area served by United Way of Greater Cincinnati. With a population of 45,000 it is largely rural. Five school districts serve the county – Eastern Brown, Fayetteville-Perry, Georgetown, Ripley Union Lewis Huntington, and Western Brown. There are ten early childhood programs in the county of which four are Head Start and two offer the Early Learning Initiative for eligible families.
The Western Brown School District has an active early childhood community supported by leaders of public and private agencies including COAD, the Hopewell Center, Adams Brown Head Start, the Brown County Educational Service Center and the Brown County Department of Job and Family Services. Organizations share information and resources in a collaborative service delivery model to meet the needs of children and families.
On the following pages, families will find information about early childhood education and home visitation in the county. There are links to local and national web sites to help parents understand the importance of the early years and how to promote their child’s development. And, there are links to agencies and services in Brown County that support families and children.
